Woodwork

After more than fifty years in the woodwork trade, Duncan has laid down his hammer to concentrate more on local history.

All businesses have to adapt to changing circumstances in order to survive. When Duncan Downie was left on his own in 1989, following the retiral of his long-time friend Bill Ross, he decided that changes were required in the business.

The nature of the funeral business dictates that a quick response is necessary when a family needs help.

To enable him to meet this need, Duncan felt that he should concentrate his work in the workshop rather than work in people's homes or elsewhere.

A move to the finer art of making bespoke furniture was made, and over the years, articles of furniture have found their way into homes of discerning customers throughout the land. Several householders enjoy living in houses with finishings created to their own specific needs and wishes.
